NDrive Sat Nav

Thursday, April 24th, 2008 | GPS gadgets with No Comments »

The NDrive G280 and G800 sat nav devices are soon to be launched. Each features photo mapping which shows a view of your route as an image of where you are. The benefit of this idea is that you will be able to see more clearly which junctions to turn at.Other navigation devices such as TomTom have 2D and 3D mapping, but from time to time it is still quite difficult to catch the exact turning you need. With photo mapping you will be able to see the buildings you are driving past so you have something to actually compare the route to. To help you get the best possible sense of where you are going the NDrive system offers 5 perspectives with 4 of them being diagonal and a 5th which offers a bird’s eye view.

Archos 605 GPS System

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 | GPS gadgets with No Comments »

Two months ago Archos upgraded their line of multimedia players by presenting the Archos 405, and they have made another update by adding a navigation system to the 605, which can now be considered a 2-in-1 gadget: media player + GPS system.
The SiRF III GPS receiver isn’t incorporated in the player, you need to attach it in order to work, but that is just a small detail. Besides providing 1 year subscription to a free service related to accident notifications, you can opt for a paid (or free) traffic warning system.

Navigon GPS

I think GPS navigation devices are the best thing to happen to man in a long time. And by man, I really mean men, guys, dudes– you get the picture. Before GPS we had to use paper maps with our lady friends doing the map reading or do the unthinkable—stop and ask directions. Both of those previous scenarios just don’t sit well with most guys. Then along comes GPS and saves us from getting lost and hearing our ladies complain that they told us to take that left 20 miles ago.The really good news is that more GPS makers are getting in on the action and the price of GPS units is coming down every day. Navigon says that its latest GPS devices provide high-end features at entry-level prices. It introduced two new models this week called the 2100 Max and the 2120 Max. The difference between the two devices is that the 2120 Max has maps of the U.S. and Canada and can only be bought in Canada for $329 CAD. The 2100 sells in the U.S. and only has U.S. maps on it for $299. Read the rest of this entry »

Garmin GPSMAP 495

Monday, March 31st, 2008 | GPS gadgets with No Comments »

I’m sure these days a built-in GPS unit is an option for even the smallest of Cessna or Piper aircraft. But if your plane was taking to the skies well before GPS technology was available to the average consumer, you can retrofit it with this new Garmin unit specifically designed for flying. The GPSMAP 495 is actually a slightly more affordable version of Garmin’s GPSMAP 496 since it lacks the pre-loaded City Navigator NT database and real-time XM weather data. So basically if you also wanted to use the unit for navigating in a car or boat you’d have to manually load the city map or marine chart data for your location.
